PROFESSIONAL Bb PROFESSIONAL Eb PROFESSIONAL Bass clarinet Advanced student mouthpiece-LYCEUM Plastic beginner mouthpiece-PLATO

Professional Bb, $195
SP model
The SP mouthpiece has a warm sound with good center or core. Its flexible sound can be used for most playing situations. It is based on a highly modified Zinner blank that has a deeply curved chamber floor.
SPE model
The SPE mouthpiece has much more center in the sound than the SP and is higher in pitch, about 442. This is preferred by orchestra players who need the added brilliance and flexibility of a higher tuning level. It is based on a highly modified Zinner blank that has a shallow curved chamber floor.
JP model
The JP is based on a highly modified Vandoren M series mouthpiece. The mouthpiece retains the core sound of the original but the playing characteristics and the sweetness and warmth of tone are greatly improved.
Professional Eb Mouthpiece $195
The Eb mouthpiece uses a Bb facing curve and has a 1.06mm tip opening. This allows you to use either Eb or Bb reeds. The mouthpiece has a beautiful tone which sounds like an extension of the Bb and not a high shrilly monster.
Professional Bass Mouthpiece $275
S1.
The S1 has a tip opening of 1.80mm and has a traditional, deep dark bass clarinet sound with good center. The facing is based on a favorite Matson modified mouthpiece I have played. The S1 is great for orchestral players and occasional players. A #3 to 3.5 reed works well with the facing.
S2.
The S2 is a copy of Michael Lowenstern’s favorite Matson modified Selmer C* mouthpiece. It has a tip opening of 1.90. This mouthpiece has a more virtuoso playing quality and has a huge soundscape. This is my most popular design and needs to played with a #3 reed.
Z1.
The Z1 is based on a Zinner blank and has my own facing developed specifically for the blank. The tip is about 1.80 and the tone quality is smooth and well centered.
Advanced Student Bb Mouthpiece $125
Lyceum model
The Lyceum is based on a highly modified blank with our standard facing curve and a 1.04-1.06mm (medium closed) tip opening. It has a very smooth and centered tone with an easy playing quality. This mouthpiece is being used with young players through college majors on a budget. It is being consistently chosen over popular French mouthpieces for its effortless playing qualities and wonderful sound.
Beginner Bb plastic Mouthpiece $38
Plato model
The Plato is a custom made acrylic mouthpiece with our hand faced standard facing curve and a 1.04-06 mm tip opening (medium closed). This is a wonderful sounding plastic mouthpiece based on a professional style facing. It can be played with #3 or 3.5 reeds.
Although priced at a beginning level, it will help a band’s clarinet section sound like advanced players. College and professional clarinetists who have played this mouthpiece have been stunned with its sound and playing quality.
Why use the names Plato and Lyceum (lie-see-um)? Plato was the great ancient Greek philosopher who started the first major school called the Academy. Aristotle was the next great Greek philosopher and his school was called the Lyceum.
These philosophers formed the foundation for Western learning. My Plato and Lyceum mouthpieces were designed to give young and advancing players a foundation of professional clarinet playing characteristics and tone quality in an affordable mouthpiece.
| | Mouthpiece Design My approach is different from many mouthpiece makers. The tables are hand lapped to be completely flat. I modify the chamber shape then hand face the facing curve to my preferred measurements. I carefully reshape the upper baffle to speed up the response and remove excess edge in the sound.
These mouthpieces are hand made and not automated production runs. You may see tool marks inside the chamber from the various files which are used.

Bb Facing Curves
The 1.04 mm and 1.06 mm tip openings are my most popular and represent the traditional facings used the past 50 years. The tip openings are in mm.
1.00C mm This is a long closed tip facing very similar to old Henry Chedeville facings.
1.02 mm has a tight sound and playing response.
1.04 mm is a standard medium long facing with a slightly warmer sound.
1.06 mm is our most popular facing with great balance of center and warmth.
1.06L mm is a little longer facing with increased warmth and depth in the sound.
1.08 and 1.08L are similar to the two 1.06’s but are slightly more open.
More open facings are available on special order.
